Hello, today I will be explaining the signals from puppies when they are calm and why they do them.
The main two signs of a relaxed puppy is:
Squinting
Tail held level or hanging down
First of all, why does squinting mean a puppy’s calm? Since a direct stare can be seen as confrontational, squinting basically says, “I know you’re the boss, I’m not going to challenge you, please don’t get angry at me”.
So, why does a level or down tail mean a dog’s calm? Submission. When a tail moves from the neutral position to a lower one, the dog is submissive and is not a threat. However, if the tail is tucked tightly between the back legs, the dog is scared. It sees a threat and is asking not to be harmed.

In conclusion, relaxed and calm puppies will often show submissive body language like squinting eyes and lowering their tails. These signals indicate the puppy feels safe and comfortable, and is not seeing its surroundings as threatening. By understanding a puppy's calming signals, owners can better provide the affection and security needed for a happy, calm dog. Paying attention to a puppy's communication is important for building a strong human-dog bond.
